Creative Work

Chum Ngek composes and performs new creative work such as the following:

  • Removed from the Palace, a cross-cultural collaboration between Khmer artists in the United States and English choreographer Jonathan Lunn. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Beckett, MA. 1996.

 

  • Cambodian Rhythm Combo, blending drums and gongs from various Khmer music ensembles. Washington College, Chestertown, MD. 2008.

 

  • Agangamasor & His Magic Power, the prequel to the Reamker, a uniquely Khmer adaptation of the Indian Ramayana, with Sara Say and the Cambodian Buddhist Society. Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, College Park, MD and Towson University, Towson, MD. 2009.

 

 

 

  • Buddha Overcomes All Obstacles, a commission by the Smithsonian, Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage, and Smithsonian National Museum of American History, with master guest artists and  the Cambodian American Heritage, Inc.
